Welcome to Season 3, Episode 1 of FIND YOUR LIGHT!
“Welcome to my home!” and to Season 3 of Find Your Light with one of my favorite humans: writer, performer, cultural commentator, and future First Lady, Mike Albo.
Mike has a new project out with Macmillan Audio called Hologram Boyfriends, and we dig into it: the loneliness and hilarity of connection online, the algorithm as a kind of dating landscape, and the choreography of longing in the digital age. Mike’s brain helps me understand the internet—why we’re exhausted by it, addicted to it, and also finding ourselves through it.
We also talk about nudity as an act of peace, the soft power of being witnessed, and why Mike’s cast of character voices could single-handedly restore diplomacy in this country.
In Act 2 we talk about Sinéad O’Connor, public collapse, compassion, and the cost of bearing cultural pain out loud.
We reference Jon Ronson’s So You’ve Been Publicly Shamed and the infamous Justine Sacco moment in internet history.
We remember Aimee Mann vs. Ice-T Twitter (a simpler time).
And I’m still waiting for my promo deal with: Starface Hydro-Stars (the official sticker of public feelings/crying in your car): https://starface.world/collections/hydro-stars
